”To Whom It May Concern, I have been teaching psychotherapy trainings in Europe 4 weeks a year for the last 18 years. During this time, Karin Mitterbauer was first a student in a 5-year, 500 hour psychotherapy training, then she was a teaching assistant, and for the last 4 years she has been my translator. Before studying with myself, she also completed a 300-hour certification training in Integrative Body Psychotherapy. With these trainings, and other studies that she has made, she is well versed in the field of psychology and is a very competent therapist.
Karin is the fourth German/English translator that I have used and is by far the best. The first 2 translators were professionally trained translators and also had a great deal of experience translating psychologists. Despite this, I have preferred Karin. Her fun-loving, warm nature makes her a joy to work with. Her extensive background in psychotherapy trainings gives her a great familiarity with the subject. Most importantly, she has done her own personal work so she is not triggered by the teachings or when the students might be activated. In my experience using translators, I have found this to be the most important qualification. If the content is activating to the translator, it becomes very difficult to teach. Having known Karin for 18 years, and observed her in 1,200 hours of intensive psychotherapy trainings, I can attest to her solidness.. Whatever might arise with my students, Karin has already seen it. With her psychological background, she also knows how to work with what is coming up therapeutically and/or how to teach off of it. She never over-steps her role as translator, but with her solid background she usually knows how I will answer questions and in which direction I will take the material. This has the effect that she helps to energetically hold the space for the teaching. Her translation is not only accurate in content but also in tone.
Karin’s style is a little more informal and more personal than the professional translators that I have used. She does not put on a front but is herself. While some might find this less professional, my students and myself have enjoyed her good nature and compassionate heart. She is a joy to be around. She also has an extensive background brining groups together with music and games. Often we will end the day with Karin leading the group in song.
It has been a joy to have Karin as a translator. I recommend her highly. Please let me know if I may be of further help or if you have specific questions.
Sincerely, David Sawyer“
